-Both feature protagonists thrust into a world in which they must use their specialized skills from Earth (survival tactics vs book/craft knowledge) to survive
-Both feature somewhat younger child characters as the protagonist
-Both are a little slower paced but give a lot of detail and attention to their respective fantasy worlds
-Both are a little hampered by lower production values, but make up for it in their writing
-Both protagonists have blue hair (almost entirely inconsequential but a little funny nontheless)
