- Both are set in mostly realistic worlds with one major fantasy element (Zodiac animals for Fruits Basket, as opposed to Fairies in Sugar Apple)
- Borh have, at least in my opinion, realistic and heartwarming romance which is somewhat predictable from the beginning, but still enjoyable.
- Both are much darker than they first appear on the surface (desperate Fruits Basket in its later seasons)
- Comedic side character(s) (Mythril Lid Pod is a combination of Uotani, Kakeru, and Momiji, nobody can convince me otherwise.)
