Both titles feature adult protagonists in seemingly small and “weak” characters, prone to discrimination and underestimation. However, they have used their charisma and knowledge of the real world to improve their situation in the new world, gaining admirers and recognition but attracting danger at the same time. The stories are wholesome and share an almost too “friendly” approach in style, using prominent themes of trust, friendship and family. Ascendance of A Bookworm is more female-friendly as opposed to “Slime” since the latter features a harem (not over the top), big-busted women, and more action. Nevertheless, the attention to world-building and pacing are similarly well done.

Both have Isekai protagonists that transmigrate to a fantasy land and then proceed to take their time establishing themselves in the world.
The slow burn of our protagonists becoming more renown, while gaining skills and connections, has a very similar feel between both shows.
Similar vibes. I would classify them as the same 'type' of isekai. The MC travels to another world and, using his/her skills from our world, improves or better the new world.
Both MCs are kind of know-it-all characters and interestingly, both also have blue hair. They both are a bit too perfect and can do nothing wrong, I guess, but Rimuru (Slime) is also definitely OP.
If you liked Reincarnated Slime's way of building a world narrative slowly over time, Ascendance of a Bookworm does this on a smaller scale but still feels just as rewarding when things are done. Doesn't have much action and is a lot more slice of life isekai, but makes up for it by keeping the idea of the Main character's past life a more central plot point.
- Isekai
- Both MCs are seen as weak until proven otherwise
- Both Mcs are focusing on helping the society around them (and not only) evolve (Myne inventing things and creating her own shop, Rimuru creating a new nation of monsters that unifies different species)
- Light themed anime with a friendly atmosphere (well... mostly)
Ascendance of a Bookworm is an amazing anime about a girl who after being reincarnated into a world filled with a classist society, poverty, magic and most importantly: no books?! Myne's passion for reading is stifled as there are no books available to the commoners, Myne must overcome her mysterious sickness, with friends and family helping her along the way. Her goal? To read books!
Honzuki no Gekokujou is similar to Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken because both animes show strong leads with determination to change the world around them. Both animes also have beautiful scenery and based in a town.
Both started with MC being in a very weak state and having to work hard.
Both have knowledge of their previous life and use that knowledge to make the life of people around them better.
The world-building vibe for both anime is quite similar.

If you appreciate that Slime breaks the isekai norm by focusing more on politics, society, and development than on combat or slice-of-life, Ascendance of a Bookworm takes it further and is entirely focused on politics, society, development, and economics.
Both series are about the protagonist's rise in influence, though while that influence is won through battle quickly and easily in slime, the protagonist of Ascendance of a Bookworm struggles immensely for every inch of progress.
