Both series give the viewer a sense of thrill and showcase how the world around the characters is incredibly messed up. Both have great animation as well.
Both anime follow teens/kids trying to uncover the plots of the most horrible adults
They also show how these situations effect the main characters psychologically
The themes of both anime can be quite hard to watch
Both anime also have a theme of not everything is as it seems, with the difference that in Banana Fish it's the outside world that's kept in the dark and in The Promised Neverland it's the kids inside who are kept in the dark
