Based off the first episode, the settings of the two seem pretty similar. Both focus on students honing their skills at a school/academy so one day they can defend life against the forces of evil. Both also focus on working well with partners. In Soul Eater it is a weapon/meister relationship and in Absolute Duo it is well... Duos. Both have to work together throughout their school years so in the end, they can be the best partners as they can be

Both series are about duo's fighting together. Both take place in an academy where they learn how to fight and stuff.
Highest level duos. Soul Eater and Absolute Duo follow duos created by MCs whose aim is to achieve the highest position in their allocated academies.
Soul Eater uses Soul and Maka as their duo, in this team, Soul aims to become a "Death Scythe" with the help of Maka. Absolute Duo has the same concept, though it derives from vengeance Tooru wishes to act on. With this, both Tooru and Julie aim to become the "Absolute Duo".
