Similar settings. Both shows take place during european cold war as well in east west conflict. Characters try to fit into society to not stand out as spies. Both shows deal with deceiption, tricks and action. Highly recommended.
Spies in a European setting fighting a war unknown the rest of the world. while every mission is it's own small ark or episode, there is certainly an overall plot development to look forward to. sounds interesting? well that synopsis describes two amazing series.
one is a top tier character driven comedy with some serious moments and action here and there, and the other is a story driven steampunk thriller with tons of tragic moments that still makes you laugh with it's extremely well written character interactions.
the way I see it, princess principal is kind of like spies x family's more serious older sister.

Both set in a sort of Cold War era, with similar tech. Thought of Spy x Family when watching Princess Principal.
It's been some time since I've been waiting for Spy x Family to get an adaption so I can do this. Princess Principal is a spy, steampunk anime that focuses a bit more on the spy side of things with several elite girls attending Queen's Mayfaire school work as undercover agents. With their unique skills, they do their best to protect the Commonwealth. The show also has a historical setting similar to Spy x Family for those who enjoy going back in time with their stories.
