There is the graphical aspect, with large monochrome areas and strong contrasts.
Somehow also the directing is similar, with many still shots, monologues and inserted letters.
And then there are ghosts, or ghost like beings, that affect reality.
However, I find Senjougahara sexier and cooler than Lain.
