the concept of being places into a world where we follow the protagonist yet we know little to nothing. The show is about the viewer figuring things out and yet also the understanding of nothing
The psychodelic style of filmmaking is present both in SEL and in SB. The themes aren't that closely related but we can still trace similarities in their stories when both of them could be seen as a journey to find your place in the world. Although I find SEL superior, SB isn't that far behind which is truly amazing for a psychological anime in 2021.
same vibe and creates great nuances that give the atmosphere of an interpretive subtext about what is the truth of it all

Flat colors, no music, and psychological horror--it's got all the chops

If you're looking for a psycho-social-philosophical anime to try and wrap your brain around but wanna tie up loose ends, Lain is a great choice. It's a harder watch than Sonny Boy, but worth it in the end. A good retrospective for those who grew up online, as well as a look into the future from older eyes.

Pretty much similar, kinda both same creepy and unique plot they typical mystery anime. Get's totally same not understandable, if you watch it just once. There was really a lot deafferents from age gap between Art and Animation, well they decades gap but they totally blend and kind of mind blowing sometimes.
Same quiet vibe, same way of getting their philosophy across, both really confusing if you stop to think about them.
