Both animes tackle the "dirty" part of the entertainment industry. The analysis, however, goes further by bringing the dramas experienced by those who make up this environment. Don't think they are idol anime with songs and cute things! You really feel the pain and anguish of real problems, real people.
Thought-provoking, even slightly exaggerated representations of the entertainment industry and its sides less shined light upon. Both shows have a grim atmosphere and handle a fair amount of taboo topics all while keeping focus on the characters, their internal conflicts and dynamics with one another.

As a fan of both and darker idol story in general, both deals with nitty-gritty of the entertainment industry and try to subvert the misconception people have with idol related story. They both even dealt with the inner politics of the entertainment industry at some point.
The contrasting difference between the two is their approach to and goal to writing the story. Both Idolish7 and Oshi no Ko talk about the entertainment industry and make a little critize about it too, it combines the idol concept and make a twist by diving deep in the worst parts of the industry
Both depict being an idol and an entertainer as a job first and foremost, as opposed to simply a passion or dream. They both offer commentary and some form of criticism toward the entertainment industry as they show the darker sides of the business. All while giving the watcher heaps of quality drama!! But also, I think they both do a pretty good job at humanizing the celebrities involved.
Surprisingly, I find there to be more realism in Oshi no Ko, the story that actually has supernatural elements lmao. Maybe it's cause IDOLiSH7 is an idol franchise above all else but I still found it just
