War, diplomatic problems, death, hardship, ever so slight Yuri... yeah they are rather similar
The two anime give out similar feeling when you watch them, from the way the episodes are directed, to the way they are portraying the action in general.And let's not forget the serious(but also realistic by adding the moments of relaxation) portrayal of war(in Princess Principal being internal and in Izetta being between countries).
Both of these anime have a main cast of characters that consists mostly of female characters.

Both series focus around royalty and government along with commoner and royalty relationship of the main character. Royalty Fine/Princess and Commoner Izetta/Ange.
Both series have plenty of actions scenes so you wont get bored and there is slight bits of Yuri here and there just like Izetta the Last Witch.
If you liked one then you most likely will like the other.

Both of these series are fantasy takes of historical events (Princess Principal less hard history and more inspiration)
The dynamic between the two leads in both shows have similar reasons for why they do what they do
Both are politically minded and feature character drama
