These "adult only" anime are indeed similar in how they mix strong elements such as violence, gore, sword fights, and sadistic villains with romance, sex, and drama.
In both anime the main characters are a fearsome swordsman and a strong-tempered female fighter, which is one of the reasons why the relationship between Jubei & Kagero instantly reminded me of Gatsu & Caska.
Needless to say, both are great to watch for fans of the genre.

Monsters and lots of blood and organs flying around. A main char who wields a big ass sword. And the nudity it contains (mild). this might not be your cup of tea. but i recommend watching it anyway. It's like ninja scroll but more extreme.
Lot of blood, lot of real good fighting scenes and action, lot of interesting characters - this is one of those titles which are considered classics.
Think of it as MUSTSEE if you want to know seinen's origins.

Both are great classical and memorable action anime. Lots of gore, medieval setting mixed with supernatural, demons, sword fights and adult content.
Both series are really old and feature gore, demons/monsters and nudity. You would pretty much categorize these as "adult only" and both are really fit for people who are fans of the GAR genre.
Both are gritty action anime from the 90s with plenty of gore and nudity. They also contain gripping storylines involving a lone wolf protagonist adjusting to a group. Despite being gritty and somewhat realistic, they also have supernatural elements.
