Both series focus around a couple of people who have a strong friendship bond and would do anything to help each other until something or someone else interferes, with the resulting actions causing an immediate shift from strong friendship to hatred. Not to mention both series also start with the end and then show the events leading up to what happened at the start.

These shows look very different from an outside and at first you may wonder just what in the world makes them alike but once you go further and look at them from the inside you will see the connection.
For starters both shows start with a bit confusing beginning but then we go into flashback mode and we see what had happened and led to such beginning which is making more sense now.
Both series are about strong friendship which later got turned into hatred and fight between each other.
Both shows have monsters, lots of blood and deaths as well as some romance.

The ending of GRZ also reminded me alot of Berserk.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ga-Rei: Zero was deliberately modeled on the structure of the original Berserk anime. The two may seem totally different but hear me out. Both start "In Medias Res" - in the middle of a savage battle - then flash back to the beginning where the origin story of two warriors is told, Yomi and Kagura in Ga-Rei: Zero, whereas it's Guts and Griffith in Berserk.
Both fight together and learn from each other until the leader, Yomi, is injured beyond any hope of recovery. While wrapped in bandages, a glowing red orb comes alive and grants
