There are a lot of things that you hear over and over as an anime fan, one of those is the constant clamoring for romance shows that don't exclusively take place inside the walls of a highschool. Wotakoi is often heralded as one of those down to earth romance shows that does a halfway decent job of presenting a real mature relationship. However if that is what you are looking for, I wouldn't have pointed you toward wotakoi, I would have instead said that you should watch Planetes.
