They both...start at the end, if you will, and screw with your brain a little. Higurashi is much more graphic than Paranoia Agent though.
The mystery element of both shows carries a majority of the plot as well as how both stories give tidbits to what is really going on with each episode.
Both are quite violent, especially Higurashi and both have rather mature stories mixed in with comedy and light-hearted moments.
both got the paranoia shit, but higurashi more serious and also more complicated
