For me, since both one of the main characters feels depressed, it adding the same vibe. The theme of aquamarine life also appears in both anime which is a plus value that both are identical.
First time I knew Aquatope from a mutual I was thought that this anime will have many Amanchu vibes,, and my thoughts were right. Both Amanchu and Aquatope set in coastal Japan and tell about a girl that moved from Tokyo for a better life and meet a local girl that will be her best friend there. The only differences are Amanchu set in Izu, Shizuoka when Aquatope set in Okinawa; also Aquatope is an original anime when Amanchu is an adaptation from the manga
