Pivotal sports classics that would set the standard for the genre, both on the shonen and shojo sides of the spectrum
Aim for the Ace is perhaps the closest equivalent shoujo has to Tomorrow's Joe. An artifact of its time that also holds up remarkably well with striking colour schemes and Osamu Dezaki's timeless techniques for directing anime. Sports plenty of classic tropes it would come to codify for its respective genres and demographic. Hiromi Oku is nothing like the rebellious Joe Yabuki at first, but both come to rise above constant tribulations thrown their way, and make tennis/boxing their everything, no matter the cost.
