I kept on thinking about Neon Genesis Evangelion while I was watching MoD - mainly because I kept on wanting to stop watching MoD and watch Evangelion instead.
MoD does attempt to be dark and edgy like NGE, and the main characters of both series are both forced to pilot a weapon (a battle suit in the case of MoD, and an EVA in the case of NGE) by their father (who is portrayed in a...negative light - in NGE, Gendo abandoned Shinji as a child; in MoD, Takeru's father is supposedly sexually abusive). Mars of Destruction is almost an exact replica of NGE. Whiny protagonist basically forced by his dad to operate his creation? Check. Mostly female cast excluding Not-Shinji and his father? Check. Unfitting usage of classical compositions? Check.
But this goes beyond just similar trope usage and goes straight for plagiarizing character designs and dialogue. Great for NGE fans who want a good laugh
There are good Neon Genesis Evangelion rip-offs. There are decent NGE rip-offs, there are bad NGE rip-offs and then there is Mars of Destruction.
Do you like NGE? Well, say no more fam! Watch Mars of Destruction and you'll see exactly the same show summed in 19 minutes in a beyond terrible way.
MoD is like the child NGE abandoned, just like Gendo Ikari abandoned his son. See??? So much alike...
Oh, and both anime will mindf*ck you. But one of them does that in a really wrong way. You can probably pinpoint which one I refer to.
Imagine. The plagiarism here is so crazy, but it still somehow managed to fall off so hard that it is now a paradox in space.
Despite being a copy of the other, Hametsu is literally just garbage that only exists to give people a good laugh. I suppose NGE isn't for all, but we have to admit the are some qualities NGE excels at.
