When I watched this anime, I do see couple of parallel between Evangelion & Kuromukuro:
Alien/extraterrestrial forces have tried to conquer earth in the past and again in modern time. This happened in both series. Efi Dorg in Kuromukuro are very much like Angels in Evangelion.
The mecha used in Kuromukuro is based on alien technology. Eva in Evangelion are also based on alien material.
Yukina & Shinji are young teens that started out as inexperienced pilots.
Yukina's mother, Hiromi is the director and chief researcher of UN Laboratory in Kurobe is very much like Shinji's father, Gendo being the director of NERV. Yukina's

Aliens coming from the space for mysterious reasons. Both have Slice of Life moments, and Action-Mecha fights as well.
The only difference is that Kuromukoro doesn't have any psychological side.
Both super fast giant robots (monsters?) physical fights with great choreography and art in the cities..
Both have a mystery on where these robots come from and the mystery of howhumans are so ready to fight them back...
No psychological side spotted in Kuromukuro at the moment (don't worry our lives are complex enough)
A UN-funded research center specializing in a specific supernatural phenomenon gets attacked by unidentifiable beings. The director's reluctant and unexperienced kid is forced to pilot a giant robot, which eventually leads to them maturing as a person and coming of age with the help of their newfound contacts and the pressure of a foreign environment. Both shows are a blend of mystery, action, school life and the struggles of a teenager with severe daddy issues. Also, some of the character archetypes are disturbingly similar right down to the guy who is obsessed with recording everything and always walks around with a camera in hand.
