Let me make this connection. On the surface, it is tempting to recommend to a watcher of Yuuki Yuuna, a certain other magical girl anime. To me, however... I would like to skip the seemingly obvious and make the recommending connection to Neon Genesis Evangelion instead.
When you boil away genre specifics, there is really a lot that YYwYdA and NGE have in common. Most obvious is the format - we have teenagers risking their lives, compelled to regularly defend a particular point in the city from attack by gigantic alien invaders. You have the Taisha and NERV serving as command & control, respectively. The

How is Eva similar to Yuuki Yuuna you ask?
Well, we have teenagers desperately fighting "monsters" that "come out of nowhere" they don't understand. There's a lot of despair in the minds of these teens because they are forced to fight these powerful entities where no one else can. Why Evangelion is simillar to Yuusha de aru you guess? Their simillarities is that there are some group of people who try to fight the things that at the beginning they don't understand at all.
Yuuna is more like what if Shinji Ikari gets in the stock shonen hero trope and genderbent into a plucky girl. Karin at the other hand is like Asuka Langley who has a superiority inferiority complex that resides between her souls.
Move to the organization and enemies, Taisha and NERV has a bit simillarities when it comes to how they handle their problems and who are the people they choose. Not to
