Both heavily stylized according to the era they came from. Both have rather complex plots that come to a close by the final episode. Little to no subplots are present in either. Very similar pacing.

now, look... this will sound weird... but, without Evangelion and Lain, Wolf's rain wouldn't have been made.
They both look, sound and have very diferent themes, and aside from having some biblical references, they have pretty little in comun, but if you are looking for something as experimental and with somewhat heavy themes as Neon Genesis Evangelion, you should watch this in my opinion...
