Way before CG there was MSG HF and it was possible that HF inspired CG since both series have identical themes of revolution, mass murder, tragedy, racism, privilege, tyranny, and moral ambiguity that allowed history to repeat it self from time to time.
Hathaway and Lelouch are leaders of their own respective rebellions who suffered a tragic past that dealt with their loved ones which influenced in them upon starting a war against a reigning government known to dominate the majority of the world under it's heels abusing all of those under the status quo by continuing the overprivilege status and discrimination per culture.
