Lots of fighting in both animes.
However, Youjo Senki is based on World War I, while GATE is a fantasy anime.
Nevertheless, both are great animes and anyone interested in military based animes will enjoy them.
For those who look for something lighter with more humor involved, I would recommend GATE. Those looking for pure badassery and exlposions, feel free to watch Youjo Senki.
I can assure you that neither of the two will disappoint you.

both anime using military as a genre and using isekai world as a background. the difference is Gate literally using gate to go to other world while Youjo Senki got reincarnated as a kid.
Both are military isekai anime. -True, Gate focuses more on the harem than actual combat, but It's still worth watching, especially if you loved the military aspect of Youjo Senki!

Anime with the best military genre, in the true military sense, not just a cover. Youjo Senki tells about ancient wars, perhaps more precisely World War 2 but in a slightly different version. GATE: tells the story of modern forces versus ancient forces, this is a war with different technologies but is one of the elements why this anime must be watched.
Both have their respective advantages, Youjo senki focuses more on war, while GATE focuses more on politics.
