Both series tackle serious problems in society in relation to the growth, acceptance and reconciliation with peoples' pasts and how they change from it. Both also mention deep themes such as bullying and suicide.
They don't have the same story, but both are pretty deep voyaging young people and the struggles that come with the actions people take. Suicide, bullying, sexuality, family relationships. There seems to be a whole barrel full of stuff to look into with the two.
In any case, if nothing else, both are pretty visual spectacles you should find the time to watch. WEP being psychological compared to dramatic borderline psychological Silent Voice.
