Internal struggles, the typical teenager stuff, but you need to be with others in order to overcome such troubles. They are both stories of understanding and accepting, all connected together with the awesome power of romance.
There's not too much Soda Pop can offer in comparison to Silent Voice, but if you are looking for something romantic and loving, I'd go with these two. I will also mention how neither are pretending to be too much for their own good with the drama within them.

Both movies involve a boy with a mental handicap (social anxiety/depression) whose life is changed by a girl with a physical handicap (buck teeth/deafness).
While the visuals are significantly different in both films, both take creativities in with the animation, for example the "X"s on the faces in A Silent Voice and the haiku graffiti and color pallet in Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop.
In both films the climax takes place during a festival with fireworks.
Kensuke Ushio weaved his magic in composing the soundtracks for both films, which sound a little familiar at some points with simple but emotional tunes.
