Even though both anime look and feel different, the main idea behind the two shows are the same. In Food Wars Souma attends a cooking school (Tootsuki Culinary Academy) while Midoriya attends a school that trains heroes (UA High). Both Souma and Midoriya has untapped potential and grows steadily over the course of the series. Just like Souma's wish is to bypass his father, Midoriya wants to be the successor for All Might. Both shows have tournaments and battles and unforgettable side characters.

Both anime have the main protagonist admitted to the top school in japan, although Midoriya from BNHA had no talents, Soma had a lot of talents. Both aim to be no.1, in Midoriya's case, no.1 hero and in Soma's case, no.1 chef. They have personalities they admire and want to be like, All Might in case of Midoriya and Soma's Father in case of Soma. Overall while watching Shokugeki no Souma, I felt a lot of BNHA vibes and that's one of the main reasons I liked it (I watched it after BNHA)

Both MCs strive to place on top of everyone else in the activities they are associated with. Although Souma is more or less a professional in cooking, whereas Deku starts from scratch, both Souma and Deku have ways to go in order to become the best that they can be. Both anime also feature other characters with different specialities. In SNS, it is the characters which have specialities in the different areas/types/culture of cooking. In BNHA, it is the different quirks each character have.
