- Protagonist is a girl who grows up in the countryside
- She is nice (too much so for my taste)
- Animals love her, and she has a little animal consort
- Also most humans like her, and she has many friends
- And some (male) devotees who would even risk their lives for her, without getting anything in return
- She gets into the high society
- There, she meets her first serious enemies
- Especially a girl around her own age hates her, and plots against the protag
I found Candy Candy somewhat better, because it contains more interesting subplots and side characters, thanks to its length.
