Bread.
Besides bread, both shows actually explore a wide range of cultures, customs, and cuisines more or less rooted in reality. The cultures explored in ACCA are more rooted in fantasy, but are influences by real world locales/time periods; whereas Yakitate Japan explore real cuisine but in a simplified and exaggerated way such that it strays into the realms of fantasy.
The plot and style and atmosphere are all very different, but everything is linked together by baked goods, both within the story and between the two shows.
