Very similar, VERY underrated series about a sort of fictional culture clash between the existence of witches and warfare. Maria is set during the medieval period and Izetta during World War 2 but, other than that, the almost anti-war theme explored by a scantily clad witch trying to attain peace using her powers links the two series closely. Maria is the darker and more graphic of the two, though.
If you can overlook middling budgets and some pandering in terms of boobs/skimpy attire/light yuri then you're in for a treat 'cause there's nothing else quite like these two underappreciated gems.

Common points:
- Young witches with a past of exile/violence/discrimination because of their powers
- Both girls have their own principles and want to coexist with people and are good at heart
- They decide to take part in a war between countries and use their powers, in hope to bring peace
- Both shows are set in a realistic historical Europe
Both are anime about a witch getting implicated in the war of the normal people and both treat the war in a realistic way(except for the witch part), having a realistic usage of weapons and realistic thinking from the people.

Another show that tries to maintain historical accuracy, except the difference that there are witches.
These shows have witches who want to avoid war, but they end up involved in conflicts.

Both shows follow the stories of young witches who get involved with the wars of humans. With magical themes, these shows are pretty cool to watch. Personally Junketsu no Maria was a better rounded story, but both have decent plot techniques employed that make either of them a decent watch
Both anime feature a witch with exceptional powers fighting in a real-world inspired European war.
Izetta and Maria show themselves in quite revealing dresses compared to all other characters, who wear historically accurate clothing.
The flight scenes in both shows are amazing.
I even wondered if Izetta was a sequel to Junketsu no Maria when I had just started watching.

Flying witch with great power. A war is also going on and another type of fight to stop it.
The storyline is extremely similar and the feeling of innocence brought by the protoganist keeps getting shattered by the gruesome reality of war. Both are centered about important historical war and both brings magic in a setting were it actively rejects it. Both ending are not what you expect but are too realist if i could say.
