Yuri on Ice (YOI) Hajime no Ippo (HNI)
YOI and HNI are similar because they both are sports animes, have a very interesting main character who acts as the center of the story, but at the same time acts as a perspective. For example, in HNI, and YOI Ippo, and Yuri act as the standard of skill because we (the viewer) have seen them the most. Both characters suffer from some sort of anxiety in the beginning of the show and began to overcome it, for Yuri it is his performance anxiety, however for Ippo it is his quietnes
(ok shut up you know what I mean, he is anxious to speak at the beginning of the show and can't stand up for himself, that is why he got bullied).
Both shows have an incredible supporting cast, however in this regard this shows are very different. Neither shows have a clear cut similar character (like Sasuke and Hiei). The main relationship in YOI (Victor and Yuri) is unlike anything in HNI, a coach-skater relationship, but at the same time a (future) spouse-spouse relationship creates some unique situations not explored in many romance animes. This is emphasized even more because it is a homosexual relationship, because gay relationships aren't anywhere near as explored as straight relationships are in anime.
