Both produced by TYPE-MOON. The character designs of Shiki and Canaan are VERY similar -- they even both have special abilities using their eyes! Also, both anime contain lots of blood and very stylized fights (jumping from rooftops, etc.). Although, Shiki uses a knife and Canaan uses a gun.
They both have similar character design and similar way of telling story (for me both were very confusing in the beginning as if I was thrown right in the middle of things instead of a beginning). Both are heavly influence by Type Moon too.
Both are action filled anime by Type-Moon and have very similar character design. I also see quite a few similarities in the characters Ryougi Shiki and Canaan
First of all, both produced by TYPE-MOON. Beyond that, there are some other similarities:
While both female leads uses different weapons in the series, they both have the independent badass personality who are able to take care of themselves. They are what some people see as "ice queens".
Both series contain plenty of action, drama, as well as similar artwork.
Both series also contain some mystery and the story telling style is similar.
The two series' protagonists have identical personalities, physical abilities, special ability and similar appearance.
There're some slight differences:
1/ Difference in eyes colors while activating their abilities. Shiki's eyes glows blue, while Canaan's turn red.
2/ Shiki uses katana and knives, while Canaan uses mostly gun
3/ They wear different styles of clothing. Shiki wears a combine of traditional and western while Canaan wear modern style only.
4/ Canaan has white hair while Shiki has brown hair. (but the same hair style)
