Similar fictional era, Both story driven heavily by the female main character. Side character is there to either help or obstacle the main character way of living while secretly hold a tiny curiosity feeling. Even if watchers is not the target audience, the charm of the show will stick as it is both are an impressive show.
If you like strong female protagonists with a strong character development, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto and Akatsuki no Yona are a must-watch! Both series feature resourceful young women who are forced to grow too fast in their richly developed historical setting. While Kusuriya no Hitorigoto follow’s Maomao, a young apothecary raised in the red light district, journey as a servant in royalty, Akatsuki no Yona revolves around a sheltered princess that is suddenly stripped of her title and has to find her path to survival and justice as a renegade.

If you enjoyed Apothecary Diaries, then I'd highly recommend Yona of the Dawn.
Both the female leads from each respective anime share similar traits, such as both being quite stubborn and strong-willed, as well as smart and independent, but they are also unique in their own ways, both have individualized strengths and attributes that set them apart from one another.
Both worlds are set in an older fantasy setting involving kingdom's and royalty, and they both have a historical feel to them (though, I can't explicitly say Yona of the Dawn is a historical anime as it is set it's own unique world, but it has the

You should watch this, both have a very very similar vibe and are very well made.
Like Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Akatsuki no Yona is set in an ancient kingdom. Both shows have romance tropes between the two main characters, however the social status of the characters are flipped seeing that Yona is a princess while Maomao is a lady in waiting and Hak is a soldier and Jinshi is a eunuch. If you enjoy subtle romance in historical anime with a strong female lead, these two shows go hand in hand.
They share similar aesthetics, with richly detailed, historical-inspired settings that draw readers into their worlds. Both series feature strong, independent heroines who use their unique skills to navigate complex challenges. The palace intrigue and political drama in both stories are complemented by their lush visuals, though The Apothecary Diaries animation has a more polished look. Despite their different focuses, Maomao solving palace mysteries and Yona reclaiming her kingdom, the visual appeal and depth of the characters create a captivating experience in both series.
Like the above ones mentioned they're both shoujos set in an ancient kingdom more specifically Akatsuki no Yona is set in Ancient Korea during it's Three Kingdoms Period (it is not set in Ancient China like one recommendation mentions wanted to clear that up) while Kusuriya no Hitorigoto doesn't seem to be set in one specific time period. Maomao for example is wearing attire straight from the Ming Dynasty whereas someone like Lishu is wearing Tang Dynasty attire. Both often related to politics and both share similar themes although the protaganists are quite different. If you want a similar vibe and an anime set in

The female characters both scream GIRL BOSS and COMFORT GIRL at the same time. Both of these have their fair share of serious moments and comedic relief moments, with the perfect amount of balance. I would say the dynamics of the mcs are a little different since Yona and Hak are childhood friends but I would say both male leads fit in the 'flirty male lead' troupe that will tug on your heart strings. Both animes have attractive and lovable side characters and the deep dives into the historical plot that is filled with drama that you might not see coming at all. These two

Of all the anime I've watched over the years, I had never encountered any anime that gave me the same feel as Akatsuki no Yona since it ended, and yet here we are! Akatsuki no Yona is also set in ancient China and it really has the same setting/atmosphere and visuals. While Akatsuki no Yona has a plot revolving around treason, it's actually more based on adventure and magical powers. It's a really powerful story with great characters, so if you like Kusuriya no Hitorigoto but haven't seen Akatsuki no Yona yet, I highly recommend you watch this classic right now!
