Both have almost the same art and fluid animation.
Both are romances which are involved in a sci-fi story.
Both takes places in another world.
The relationship between the main characters is dramatic and the girl in both series has problems.
Eureka 7 and Patema Inverted has several key similarities, just to note:
-they both tackle the theme of discrimination from interesting angles
-there is a dystopian tyrannical government in both pushing false propaganda and history on its people
-the fathers of both the main characters died in a science experiment (or so they believe)
-both have multiple instances of freefalling romance (falling together in the sky)
-both the titular characters (Eureka and Patema) have green hair and red eyes
While there are certainly differences between the two, Eureka 7 is more action based and Patema Inverted is more of a suspenseful drama, I think fans of one will probably appreciate
