Orphan boy? Check.
Giant robot? Check.
Wrist Controller? Check.
Both shows have some glaringly obvious similarities, but the mentality behind them is very different (one Eastern, with shades of old wuxia tales, the other Western, with all of the comic book hallmarks)
Of the two, Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still is easily the better show, but Heroman is still worth watching as it's entertaining enough in its own way.
Remote controlled robots. Also, both Giant Robo OVA and Heroman have excellent animation.
