In short, both shows, although similar in general structure for the magical girl and the formula shown and popularized by Sailor Moon, offer up a unique outlook and a type of inspection in their own genre. By doing so, challenging their status quos by not only shifting ideologies, beliefs, and preconceived notions about the genre, but in turn, challenging in their own simple, but unique way of storytelling.

Madoka takes the magical girl genre and decapitates it. If you like the concept and you want to see your favorite characters succeed, find love, and well, LIVE, then a classic like Cardcaptor Sakura is what you've been looking for. Cardcaptor Sakura is such a sweet, delightful show that it's hard not to bounce in your seat each episode. The style (by CLAMP) is clean and bright, and reinforces the tone of the show in the way that Madoka's nightmarish landscapes and dark architecture reinforces its own tone. Well, it's different but by the same time they have a lot in common. While Madoka is the more "mature" and edgy version, and even a parody (though not a funny one) of the mahou shoujo genre, Sakura is much more light hearted and many times is aimed for kids. but don't let it confuse you - Sakura is mature as well. Sakura shows that even without forcing something to be edgy, it can be as good and as mature. Both have some very surreal scenes, and you can see Madoka has taken several aspects from Sakura, without even changing a bit of them. If   read more

Both are classic magical girl series with a cheerful female lead who tries her best to overcome dangerous circumstances and a focus on friendship as well too and a cute magical animal side kick as well too.
