They both are packed with mindfuck and throw everything crazily at you from the word 'go'
FLCL and The Tatami Galacy both have the same feel to them. They are coming-of-age comedies with slight slice-of-life elements and a rather nifty art style too.
Asian Kung-Fu Generation (who do the YST OP - Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat) and The Pillows (who do all of the music in FLCL) are similar bands. Both have been asked to open for Oasis, but The Pillows turned it down for the lulz.
Maybe it's because of the above point, but I feel that both series have a kind of joy about them. They're both (too) short, and try to pack everything they've got into that space. Speed-talking ensues, and it's a task to keep up with the references and trains of thought. Both also maintain interesting and confusing stories whilst having a

These shows are so fast paced and crazy that you get completely absorbed in the story and humor. Additionally, they both have a unique art style, and a bizarre feel to them. Both anime are filled with black comedy, and have slice of life elements as well.

One word, fast.
Both shows go at blick neck speed so already it is demanding.
But past that, are two works are a marvel to behold in not only animation, quality and aesthetic, but in terms of story and characters, they are shown more in an artistic view. Any more would be spoilers but the themes tackled are not only varied and diverse but handled in a way that gives power to the viewer in terms of interperating, themes, emotion meaning, character motivation and overall the psychological dive into individuals.
FLCL and Tatami Galaxy are two short and extremly fast-paced anime, which are about struglles of growing up into adulthood, even if both handle it differently. Comedy, drama and creative use of story telling and art style are frequent in both shows.

Both of these shows are unique, fun, fast paced stories with distinct, ever-changing artsyles, great comedic moments, sexual themes, and fantastic music. There’s incredible depth beneath the surface with these anime and nearly every shot is packed with so much information that you’d probably have to watch multiple times to even approach catching everything there is to catch.
Both are fast-paced coming of age stories full of chaos, quirky humor and lots of style.
