In both Code-E and Elfen Lied, secret organizations collect girls with special powers and perform brutal experiments (more implicit in Code-E). Some people in both fear a new kind of human and the resulting possibility of extinction, which lets both shows examine human relationships through the lens of differing humanity. They also examine human character and flaws, though Code-E's outlook on humanity is considerably less grim than Elfen Lied's.
