Both are entertaining if you want to switch your brains off and enjoy some fair amount of gore paired with ridiculous writing and character development.
Even though the stories are different, the similarities are defined in the horror. Both anime's tend to build up some sort of suspense as the series comes to an end, and as a complex story starts to unroll, it really does get your imagination to go somewhere.

Same genre.
Lots of mysteries, little dose of horror, good drama and brilliant story.
If you like drama and violent scenes this film is for you, this will not be a great experience for people who aren't used to mutilated bodies and blood.
Maybe they don't have similar plots, but the mystery and the style reminds me of each other in some way. If you like horror and gore, you'll like them.
People have tendency to die around the lead characters in most brilliant and creative ways. Plus the both stories are about guy moving into a new town and finding himself surrounded by weird stuff.

Horror, gore, great plots and unfolding storyline. This is a great horror anime that is a must watch for anyone who aren't sensitive to blood and gore.
With intense splatter and great mystery, both these series had me pinned to my TV for the whole show.
Another will, just like Elfen Lied, have you constantly switch sides and give you a hard time "choosing sides" since new information and unexpected discoveries makes you doubt what you thought about the characters so far.
Sit back and enjoy the bloodbath that awaits you!

These anime are similar in having:
- Copious amounts of gore - Another's is censored in places and less in a violent sense than Elfen Lied but it's still very much present in both series.
- A plot that you can really get invested in if you don't hold to an extremely high standard. People more new to anime are more likely to appreciate these titles at a potentially high entertainment value from some suspenseful or thrilling moments while not being critically excellent.
- Both series have stand-out main heroines. Granted these 2 characters are very different but they overshadow the male protagonists of their respected series easily.

Elfen Lied and Another are works of God for fans of psychological horrors. Both stories contain the element of mystery as the characters investigate the past, where they slowly unravel the truth of their predicament. Elfen Lied differs as the story investigates the protagonists repressed past. While the story of Another features the characters trapped in a curse where they make attempt to escape, by investigating past cases. So, if your a big fan of an investigative story-line that contains people being ripped to shreds and dying at ever corner, it's likely you will love both series.
both are gory and horror anime with strong female leads. personally I think Another has more horror and thriller; Elfen Lied has more gore and violence.
Fatality. Fatalities on no end. Elfen Lied and Another bring forward a disheartening world full of unnecessary death. Following strange gloomy girls and male MCs who take a particular interest in these unorthodox girls and the secrets in their lives.
Elfen Lied has Kouta take in dual minded killer Lucy. Another follows Sakakibara and his experience in the deadly school of Yomiyama North.
Both are good horrific anime revolving around supernatural elements. Elfen Lied containing significantly more romance than the incredibly light touch Another brings.

Both of these shows are just amazing for fans of psychological horrors. If you enjoyed the gore and mystery in Another then you are sure to enjoy Elfen lied.
Although Another was a lot more graphic when it came to gore, so do not expect the same when watching Elfen lied (it is still pretty much a bloodbath though). But both anime contain strong female leads and whilst both plots are very different, they both have dramatic violent scenes and an amazing storyline filled with emotion.
Supernatural stories wrapped around a veil of death and gore. Protagonists who decide to talk to a cute girl who turns out to be different than what they expected. Deep and intricate plots with lots of interesting aspects.
Two animes that, while not similar plot-wise, are equally capable of making the viewer feel uneasy and frightened.

Another is gory as hell, but elfen lied is more gory. Sure another has better plot, but elfen lied has more gruesome deaths and you fell kind of sorry for the characters. Also I need to tell you that elfen lied has some incest and if you are not prepared for that like I was, then you might fell a little bit weird for the whole day. If you are okay with that then you have seen to much hentai.
Elfen Lied and Another both have:
-Death/gore
-MC's that are seen as monsters
-Scenes that are quite sombre and scenes that are fairly heartwarming
- Both are phycological thrillers with A LOT of gore
- Both feature supernatural elements
- Both focus on a mystery which is gradually through the episodes
- Both are definitely 15+ (probably 18+ for Elfen) in terms of their heavy themes and extremely graphic/disturbing scenes
Similarities:
-Both are dramatic horrors
-Mysterious and creepy girl mcs who meet normal male mcs who are confused and have no idea what is going on.
-They both have a lot of gory and bloody action but Elfen Lied is more gory than Another
Differences:
-Elfen lied is a romance unlike Another
-Another is a Mystery unlike Elfen Lied
-One has a villainous mc (Elfen Lied) and the other has a heroic mc (Another).
-Elfen lied has a lot of nudity and Another has barely any nudity and no ecchi.
If you like one then you might like the other.
