Aoi Bungaku Series

Both shows are EXTREMELY unnerving.
Okay, not all of Aoi Bungaku is unnerving - the first story (No Longer Human) and the last 2 (The Spider's Thread and Hell Screen) are the only ones that I'd call "Unnerving".
Both shows are also by the same studio, and both are extremely historical.

Yes, Aoi bungaku series is made of short stories and shigurui is only one story, but they both revolve around very dark themes and rely heavily on the atmosphere to grab your attention, that's why I think that if you liked one of them, you'll like the other one.
They are similar in the sense that they explore the depths of human nature. They both depict the good, bad and ugly of every human. Aoi Bungaku handles literature classics while Shigurui is a samurai manga which was adapted to an anime. They show struggles a human goes through in every situation. Both animes depict psychological aspect of things in a high standard. They were so similar to me, I decided to just make the similarity. If you like one, you'd like the other.
