Both Tamako Love Story and Koe no Katachi are directed by Naoko Yamada and produced by Kyoto Animation. Direction styles are distinctively her own, with use of cinematographic techniques and use of flowers as metaphors and right choice of music enhancing the experience. Tamako Love Story has a straightforward story although depth is added by the heroine's deceased mother and heroine's friend Midori whose role I would not disclose here (watch the movie. Tamako Love Story and Koe no Katachi both wonderful anime movies, and if you liked one I highly recommend you try out the other. They both benefit from the stunning direction of Naoko Yamada, who brings an irreplaceable sense of nuance to her works. You can tell that thought was put into the layers of each and every character, and Naoko's talent for subtlety expressing thoughts and emotions are well exemplified in these two movies.
