Two "weird" groups of young people having a normal life while using some type of experimental technology. Granted, the technology used in each is very distinct, but both have some kind of futuristic elements not achieved by our current technology.
What makes Steins;Gate and Dennou Coil similar to me is the simple beginning with hints for a big mystery or conspiration that later develops throughout the story. Apart from a similar mysterious aura and issues around these new and futuristic technologies and the consequences of its use, there are also calm or fun episodes that contrast with the dramatic and dark moments present in both shows.
