Well, not only do the authors keep making the story more interesting as it goes a long, they also keep adding seemingly impossible things into the plot. Also both series have a goofy main character who always wants to protect his friends and family.

Monkey D. Luffy (Main) and Zorro Roronoa are very similar to Goku and Piccolo in their personalities. One is nice, the other appears bad but eventually they become allies. So Have fun! ^ ^

It's epic like Dragon Ball Z,have epic fights like Dragon Ball Z,epic characters like Dragon Ball Z and Super Epic Protagonist like Dragon Ball Z
Both the main characters of the shows, Goku and Luffy, are very alike. They both love food, both are insanely strong and they both love their family/friends.
Fighting and overcoming foes are a big part of both shows. And they both have some humour in them.
They both have the same anticipation, nice action, fighting, and love for the characters. Also, both main characters can and love to eat a lot.
Neverending Powerups. Innocent (or just dense) main character who is searching for a treasure that can fulfill their wishes (In case of One Piece it's becoming pirate king) and their encounters on the journey. Everything is possible with the Power of friendship.
Beware of filler episodes!

There both really good anime's with epic and sometimes over the top fighting scenes and Goku and Luffy are pretty much the same person but in different anime worlds

Both series have a main character who wants to achieve something and try to achieve it. Strong opponents to defeat and many friends who must be created.
These animes are similar because we have a dumb main character which eats a lot and bot of these characters care a lot for their friends and won't let them die no matter what. Both of these animes are really long too.

Luffy from One Piece and Naruto from (well) Naruto were both inspired by Dragon Ball's Goku. The creators say as much themselves. And same studio of Animation
