Look at those titles-- it doesn't take a genius to connect 'Read or Die' to 'Library Wars'. Both series have main characters who... well, love and protect books. And while Toshokan Sensou is more realistic than ROD, you can't deny the similarities.
Libraries and bookshops are a big part of both anime series. With Toshokan Sensou, the main theme is literary censorship and freedom of expression in which libraries act as beacons of freedom against an ever-growing censorious bureaucratic apparatus.
R.O.D. revolves more around books and literature as each individual's expression and free will, and how they may be perverted for nefarious means such as brainwashing and even global control.
