Samurai Story. In genre these anime are totally different as far as action, comedy, adventure, etc. They are however historical and involve samurai, so if you are search of those, you might like to watch Saraiya, but don't expect to see a lot of fighting in it.

Same animation director and team worked on both and they both happen in Samurai era with Ronins as their protagonists.

Saraiya Goyou or House of Five Leaves has a very similar atmosphere and setting to Samurai Champloo. Both are about life in the Edo period of Japan and have a unique art style. Saraiya Goyou reminds me of the dramatic storylines of Samurai Champloo. While Champloo has more comedic moments and modern music, Saraiya Goyou is much more muted and simplistic. If you enjoyed some of the quieter moments of Champloo, then you will enjoy Saraiya Goyou as well.

Very similar settings, though Samurai Champloo is obviously a bit more far-fetched. These are two samurai shows that have vastly different goals but surprisingly similar stories, just told in different ways. They both do an excellent job fleshing out the world and time period. The art is very captivating in both, and the character designs are memorable. I feel as though House of Five leaves is often forgotten when people think of samurai series, perhaps because of it's slower pace and more slice of life elements. But I can't help but be reminded of one of these when I watch the other.

Same genre (historical/adventure) and content (life of samurai). Saraiya Goyou is similarly dreamy, and emotive. Samurai Champloo is noted for style, irreverence, and blunt surrealism (beatboxing in historical Japan?). On the other hand, House of Five Leaves as a historical samurai series is more true to form. Also, it is inarguably more sophisticated. In my opinion, House of Five Leaves is better, but both are great series.

Both of the anime gives off the same vibes. Similarities: -Includes a soft-hearted but strong samurai as a protagonist. -Takes place on Edo Period & gives a proper demonstration of that time's lifestyle. -Story gets unfolded in a dark tone while taking place in a crime ridden atmosphere. -Rich storyline with good pace which progresses through well narrated events. -The stories tend to be realistic and grounded rather than going over the top and yelling about justice or greatness. -The characters carry the same kind of mysterious aura around themselves and almost all of the main cast are pretty well written characters who are trying to maintain the balance between their past   read more

First, both were made by manglobe, a very good studio (that will never create masterpieces again ;-;). Both are set in Edo period. They both depict characters that are complicated to understand, and that struggle understanding each other as well. Those characters all have interesting backgrounds to discover.
