The plots aren't the same, not even close, but the 'feeling' you get while watching them is the same. Dark drama, sadness, fighting, blood spillage, deaths and fighting to survive in a broken down civilisation with only 'hope' as your guide. Also that both animes have secrets about the world that keep you guessing to the very end.
Also the bond between the characters are the same.

The world in the both anime are mostly destroy from the previous war, and the remain human can only live in few place where not everything is destroyed.....and the MC from both show are escaping from the world where they don't belong and looking for a new way of life........both show have little romance in it but is still memorable
Both animes revolve around dark societies of secrets and lies to prevent a certain truth. The protagonists are on a quest for finding the truth behind what society and the world have hidden. Also to note, the settings are very much alike. A few episodes in, No. 6's future ghetto tends to match area's of Wolf's Rain. The time of each anime is set in the future where technology is highly advanced for those who can pay for it, yet not available in the slightest for those who cannot. While No.6 focuses more on a loss of innocence within a dystopian society, Wolf's Rain also
