Both are very well-made kids movies dealing with predator-prey relationships.

Both contain odd unusual friendships. This one also has a bit more action in it, though.
Touching story about a relationship between a carnivore and herbivore. While made for children, it can well be enjoyed by adults too.
Movies that focus on the interspecies relationships and independent, caring animals that are under tension from social judgment. However, the relationship between Heart and Umasou is familial whereas the relationship between Mei and Gabu is friendly with a romantic subtext. Additionally, the predator-prey relations are seriously examined beyond the typical ‘predator = evil’ trope. Both movies finish with their own versions of bittersweet endings.
Relation between predator and prey species, including rejection by the respective herd/flock/pack of the MCs. Both have strong "love overcomes all" messages, in Arashi's case it's friendship bordering romantic homosexual love, in Omae it's parental and family love. Omae has much simpler animation and is clearly more targeted at kids than Arashi, but nevertheless the former has the better characters and writing.
