Nadja is an orphan who lives at the Applefield Orphanage, in early 20th century England.
Candy is an abandoned orphan taken in by the orphanage Pony's Home around the start of the 20th century. While Candy is indeed a "true orphan", Nadja finds out her mother is in fact alive and travels around Europe in hopes of reuniting with her.
