Both are satirical, cynical, and make social commentary about the state of the industry (the idol industry, and the anime industry.)
Both show a view of the idol or animation world as not all 'sunshine and roses'. Which is a unique perspective, in what is a usually escapist medium.
Both seem to be light-hearted cute girl shows at first glance, but not is all as it seems...
Girlish Number seems lighter than WUG so far, but who knows...
