Basically both have the conceit of many people who have personal problems and one ultimate person to reflect them, and the evilness and misery of man.
In these two series, there is mystery, psychological thriller endings, police drama, and themes that are serious that are also dark and gets darker as each episode progresses.
Both series has a lot of drama that deals with human nature and identity.
The circumstances presented in both series also deals on how humans uses instincts and what the mind can do during those situations.
The moral choice of life and responsibility as well as that sense of dealing past events are also explored in both of these series that are insightful.
Two Madhouse masterpieces from the same year (2004). They share the same kind of psychological atmosphere. Characters are always questioning their own sanity, percepction and points of view of the mystery that surrounds them. Both soundtracks, especially OPs/EDs, are unforgettable. Monster and Mousou Dairinin can make you doubt your own self-concept, and the amazing work of the directors will put the viewer at a state of psychological suspension which is no use trying to explain - feel it for yourself.
