Maison Ikkoku

A new manager comes living into an old building and starts having feelings towards one of the residents, leading to all kinds of misunderstandings and goofiness. Not exactly the same humor, though. But definitely worth a shot if you want something a bit more realistic and a lot less haremish.
Love Hina is based off of Maison Ikkoku storyline , but of a much lower quality. Insert slapstick humor, more uninteresting jokes that deviates from the storyline and you have Love Hina. Watch Maison Ikkoku, the original story of a person who falls in love at first sight.
The setup of both animes is very similar, but Love Hina is a much more comedic and otaku-ified version of Takahashi's anime/manga. If you liked Maison Ikkoku and are fine with a somewhat horny comedy take on it, watch Love Hina. If you like Love Hina, but would like an anime that has more serious plots and an amazing 1980s soundtrack by Kenji Kawai, watch Maison Ikkoku.
