Is "losing heroines" a proper genre?
Who you root for is entirely your own preference. Each heroine gets their due screen time, so in the end it may be hard to choose. The endings are also quite dissatisfying, because you grow to like each heroine and suddenly you're begging for even more screen time, no matter how plotless. Unfortunately, things can not stay the same forever. I think both animes try to get that point across more than anything. As well as a point of the importance and significance of relationships, but that's a given.
